About Me

I own a 100-acre farm in Sharon Township with my husband Clay, where we breed horses, raise goats, keep bees, grow hay, and enjoy spending time with our four dogs. I am the owner-operator of Turning Point Equine Services, where I breed and show horses, as well as teach classes. I also work as a veterinary technician at Countryside Veterinary Clinic. I studied horse management at Michigan State University.

In my free time, I enjoy painting, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Why I’m Running for Trustee

The Board of Trustees are the legislators of our Township, and responsible for oversight of our ordinances and contracts. I think it is important that we have fresh faces on the Board who can bring new ideas and an independent outlook on the issues facing our Township.

When Kathy Spiegel was appointed as the Township Supervisor, she stated that, “In the best of all possible worlds, in the next year or so we’ll find someone who is willing to learn the ropes, that we can groom to take over after me.”

I am ready and willing!

Government functions most effectively when elected officials become subject-matter experts. Contracts, ordinances, millages — these are complex issues that require careful consideration and understanding. The Board of Trustees has had quite a bit of turnover in recent years and is in need of members who will learn, continue to serve, and become Township experts!

I care deeply about our community, and I want to do my part to make it a better, more prosperous place to live and work. As your Township Trustee, I will commit to being transparent and accountable to our citizens, engaging with our community, and taking your concerns seriously.

We are all very lucky to live in such a beautiful Township. My goal is for constituents to feel heard and represented.

FAQs

  • My education and experience make me uniquely qualified for the role of Sharon Township Trustee. I attended Michigan State University. I then served as a board member and the trainer at Michigan's largest equine non-profit for five years. It was there that I developed my talents for strategic planning, cooperation, and compromise, working collectively with other board members toward high-level objectives and common goals. I have owned and operated a local business for over a decade, where I have managed several employees and further honed my leadership skills. With my background in non-profit governance and entrepreneurial spirit, I am well-suited to serve our community.

  • My goal is responsible governance and strategic management by:

    (1) Enhancing communication between the board and citizens. Simple changes can help, like a newsletter and using the website and social media to keep the community informed about decisions and upcoming projects. These tools can also be utilized to spread awareness of local issues and learn about the concerns of our constituents.

    (2) Improving contracts. Given recent issues with StoneCo, some residents are concerned about how tax dollars are spent - I admit, I was one of them! Officials must understand contract management and citizens must trust that they do. I will advocate for reviews of existing contracts, training for those who make contract decisions, and increased transparency in contract negotiations.

    (3) Working with limited resources. We can mobilize volunteers; pursue grants to supplement our budget; and collaborate with townships, local businesses, and non-profits to share resources and reduce costs.

  • I believe that the most serious problem facing the township is the legal battle with the gravel pit company StoneCo. There have been some amazing recent achievements in court, and I want to ensure that this continues and our constituents are not negatively affected by it. Their concerns need to be valued over all else, and must remain the aim of the township board. I have already prioritized establishing an open dialogue during my campaign, and I will continue this practice while in office so that every resident has the opportunity to voice their concerns to me. I believe that every decision made by the board should benefit the people it serves.

  • Sharon Township is an amazing place to live. Offering some of the most beautiful nature in Washtenaw County, it is a sanctuary in Michigan for those of us looking for a safe, quiet oasis for our families. Our beautiful natural surroundings and vibrant community spirit are the foundation upon which we can build our future. I propose we do this by:

    (1) Preserving the natural beauty of our township.

    (2) Supporting local businesses by promoting local shopping, providing support for entrepreneurs, and organizing events that highlight the area's unique businesses.

    (3) Holding more events that bring people together.

    (4) Encouraging civic engagement. By involving residents in decision-making and volunteer efforts, we can harness the full potential of Sharon Township's talent.

Sharon Township's greatest assets - its natural beauty and community - are the keys to our future success. I will work tirelessly to ensure that we continue to thrive, making our township an even better place to live.
